About
This project involves the partial renovation of an existing single-family home nestled in the Catskill Mountains of New York. At the rear of the house, an underutilized covered deck was transformed into a guest bedroom/office, a sunroom, and a new angled outdoor deck.

To preserve the character of the existing structure, the original wood columns of the covered deck were retained, with new walls and windows thoughtfully positioned between them. This constraint became a guiding design principle, allowing the infill to seamlessly integrate with the home while adding valuable interior square footage. A small, angled deck was created by recessing a portion of the new exterior wall, maintaining the home’s distinctive profile while introducing a dynamic architectural element.
